Table for 12 somewhere near Tower around 4-5pm?

Looking for a place to grab an early dinner, around 4-5pm in the vicinity of the Eiffel Tower for about 9 adults and 3 older children. Some of us will be taking the Fat Tire bike tour that starts at 7pm, and don%26#39;t want to be too far from the starting point of the Piller Sud. A reasonable walk or short Metro ride would be great. Any suggestions? Looking for something under 30E per person, but thinking we%26#39;ll need to make a reservation for a party that large. Oh yeah, and a somewhat kid friendly menu too!

Are there places that would take a reservation that early in the evening? Or should we just wing it?

Restaurants are not opem for dinner at those hours.

Altitude 95 at first level of Eiffel Tower (has a new name, a new menu, a new look) may be open all day. Check on line. Les Restaurants de la Tour Eiffel.

Otherwise there are many cafes and patisseries around Ecole Militaire where you can have food if not a full traditional meal. La Terrasse is a good one on the corner at metro exit.

You are wise to dine ahead of the bike tour - there%26#39;s nothing worse than wishing it were over because you%26#39;re hungry - and the dining options when the tour ends are quite limited that late.

Best bet is to find a place with continuous service and plenty of seating, and not necessarily limit yourselves to the immediate vicinity.

For one thing, you can go straight to the Fat Tire office, rather than spend 1/2 hour at the Piller Sud waiting for everyone to arrive and walk as a group to the office. (Just print yourself a map from pagesjaunes.fr and let Fat Tire know you%26#39;ll just meet them at the office.)

One of our %26quot;go to%26quot; places is Chez Flottes just off Place de la Concorde. Open every day with continuous (and very friendly) service, extensive menu (you can download in English from their website), moderate prices, very good food. From there, you can hop on the Metro to La Motte Picquet/Grenelle and walk 5 minutes to Fat Tire, or take Bus #42 and get off at Desaix/Edgar Faure, only steps from the Fat Tire office.

It is definitely best to reserve for a party of 12 when you%26#39;re on a schedule, so they can be set up and prepared for you - otherwise it could take forever, even if they are able to seat all of you spontaneously.

If you%26#39;re interested in a picnic on the Champs de Mars ahead of time, there%26#39;s an outstanding (among many) take-away shop at 145 Rue Saint-Dominique called Le Champ des Delices with sandwiches, quiche, terrific salads, fantastic pastries, beverages, etc. Still, allow plenty of time because it can take a while for everyone to make up their minds and have their selections boxed up.

If you%26#39;ve worked up an appetite on the tour, there%26#39;s a very casual cafe called Le Bouquet de Grenelle, opposite the La Motte Picquet/Grenelle metro station that%26#39;s open late with excellent crepes, pizza, and typical cafe food, with a few %26quot;plats du jour%26quot;.

I%26#39;m guessing we%26#39;ll have to eat at a bistro/cafe of some sort, not at a restaurant, which is fine. Do those types of places even take a reservation?

djk - thank you so much, that is exactly the type of info I was looking for, I%26#39;ll definitely look into those suggestions!!!

You should not require a reservation, even for a party of twelve at that hour. La Terrasse is a great idea.

If you go down the Champs de Mars and turn right at the Ecole Militaire, you are on Motte Picquet. There are four good, non-stop service cafes just there. A more neighborhood feel than La Terrasse and calmer, but lacking the great trees and the view of the Ecole.

When I%26#39;m googling Chez Flottes, it comes up as Chez Pauline, is this the same location? I can%26#39;t seem to find a good address for Chez Flottes.
