Paris in a Day + Tour de France Question

We need help with suggestions on how to spend one day in Paris. We will be arriving at CDG airport at 1203pm on Sunday, 7/26/09 and will be departing at 1350 on Monday, 7/27/09. We have never been to Paris and will be travelling with our daughters (ages 10 and 8). One of my main concerns is that the Tour de France will be ending there the day we arrive and I don%26#39;t know how this will impact our sight-seeing. I was originally planning to get a hotel near the Arc de Triomphe or the Louvre, but am unsure about that decision because of the race.

The race goes by Arc de Triomphe but not by Louvre per say. The whole area between Louvre and Notre Dame will not be affected si you can visit that first and even go to Marais or left bank crossing at Pont des Arts for example. You could also go to Eiffel Tower by metro. Stay away from Champs Elysees that afternoon. You can go in the evening however.

Typically, the runners reach Paris in the afternoon and then they do 8 loops from Place des Pyramides to Arc de Triomphe so all the fans can see them really well.

I would do a bit of research and then give the various choices to youself, husband and children and see what appeals to all

My son wanted to go up the eiffel tower-we went to second floor and he had hot chocolate plus crepe there. Both delicious and not too expensive, Great memory

River trip a must

A trip up Montparnasse a really good experience too-no queue and brilliant view with lots of maps

View of eiffel tower at night from Trocadero very magical

Notre dame or sacre couer-both prob too much

walk in Luxembourg garden where a lovely playground might be good

Lots of cafe stops tosit and stare

enjoy
