Latin Quarter Advice: places to eat, transport to CDG

Hello experts,

Teenage daughter I booked with the Le Jardin de Cluny in the Latin Quarter for four nights late June. Would very much appreciate your help with 2 questions:

Do you know of reasonable places near the hotel to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner? I understand from the forum that the reviews are mixed regarding restaurants in the area.

We will be catching a 9 am flight from CDG to Milan, what%26#39;s the best way to get to the airport from the hotel, how much time to allow, cost?

Merci mille fois!

Just up blvd. St. Michel from the Cluny metro stop is rue Racine on your right. Boullion Racine is an old Parisian bistro which serves good, reasonably priced food.

If budget is an issue, you can take the RER from the St. Michel stop to the airport. 8E60

You can opt for a taxi. I never have much luck finding one at the taxi rank at St. Michel, but you can call G7 at their English-speaking #: 01 41 27 66 99 to arrange one to pick you up.

We just stayed on rue des ecoles, and there are lots of bakeries and bistros in the area. Some bakeries have coffee, others don%26#39;t. The bistros will have larger breakfasts available (eggs, etc. and a menu posted out front) but we just needed a pastry and coffee. There are many excellent restaurants in 5th and 6th, and you will also be out near tourist sights around lunch and dinner, so you will have many choices for meals. There are many cafes that sell sandwiches street-side so you can eat and walk at the same time. Also corner grocery stores selling fruit and snacks for reasonable cost. Our hotel called the taxi for us and it was early to pick us up, not sure how the traffic will be at your morning departure time. Have a wonderful trip!

The French do not eat breakfast as such. Un Croissant or une tartine (a buttered, longitudinally sliced baguette) and a large bowl of coffee, maybe with a glass of juice seems to sustain them until lunch. Most cafés serve this simple fare at a price much less than what hotels charges for %26quot;petit déjeuner%26quot;.

As for your flight, I recommend your being at CDG by 6am, 6:30 at the latest. If you can be at St. Michel RER B station for the 5h24 (or 5h39) departure, you will be OK. The only other alternative would be to call a Taxi (the day before) for a 5h30 pickup.

I take CDG departures very seriously. While often the check-in and security lines more along well, they can also clog. Those who do not allow for unknowns at this airport often regret it.

On Blvd St. Germain at Odeon Metro, stand with your back to the street. Starbucks will be to your left. To the right (on a corner) is a cafe that serves wonderful omlettes (sp?) with potatoes and onions. Very reasonable. Excellent coffee. Only ate breakfast there, no other meals.

On Rue Cler is cafe Le Marche. Again very reasonable price and the roasted chicken was the best I%26#39;ve ever eaten. Lunch was about €10pp.

There are lots of cafes and restaurants near your hotel. And down the street is the Metro stop Maubert Mutualite where there is a good street market on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

On the square at Maubert Mutualite there are several cafes that serve breakfast, a very good patisserie and a wonderful cheese shop. You%26#39;ll find everything at your finger tips in that location.

Thank you all!

For transport: we%26#39;ll probably wait till we get there. If it seems safe and feasible to go to the metro station at 5 am on a Saturday, then we%26#39;ll do it and save a few euros. Otherwise, will call a cab (got the number!).

TA is a great community!

Can%26#39;t imagine travel without it!!
