montmartre portraits sketches

We have just returned from paris and thought some info on portrait sketching in montmartre as per our experience might be useful

~Lots of artists wandering around trying to get you to let them sketch you

Unless you know better suggest you ignore them and head for the the main square where the main ones sit

Good idea is to make sure you wander up maybe on a different day and watch them draw someone else first and get there first thing another morning to catch them! Of course we didn%26#39;t do that but luckily are happy with the drawings!! Ideal if someone else with you watching so they can see as it progresses whether its a good likeness/well drawn

we had pencil rather than charcoal sketches done in montmartre of our 2 children by a chinese lady (in between one of the cartoonists and an artist who displayed a picture of himself with a pipe) who we were very pleased with

for charcoal sketch best artist we saw there was another oriental gentleman who is recognisable because he has a strong twitch-his sketches were superb, best we saw!!!

one of other artists drawing sketched a horribly unflattering picture of a tourist(like a caricature but not funny) and because she was by herself she ended up paying for it. A salutary warning to be cautious

Look at any artist%26#39;s work first and then negotiate cost. Il can vary whether they are having a good day or not. And you are not obligated to buy at the end if you are not satisfied.
