Help with metro

Hi,I have been reading up on the Paris metro. We plan to buy carnet of tickets.Have a doubt. If by mistake we get out of the train in the wrong station can we take another train without exiting from the station on the same ticket or is another ticket needed? also when taking a connection (same zone)without exiting from station do we use a new ticket? what if we have to change from metro to RER? Any advice would be welcome .Thank you

You do not need another ticket in any of the circumstances you describe.

No, as long as you don%26#39;t exit the metro system you can change trains or transfer to the RER without having to use a new ticket.

When using the RER you may be required to use the ticket several times, though. For example, when you take the metro and transfer to RER, you will probably need the (same) ticket three times: one time to enter the metro, then when transfering to the RER, and finally when leaving the RER.

You can usually see a small overhead sign %26quot;Limite de validité des billets%26quot; at the point (usually a one-way door) where you leave the metro.

you only need a new ticket when you leave the metro station and get back on. Hang on to your ticket while inside as you will sometimes be asked to produce it for the metro officers and if you do not have it you will be fined. If you accidentally take the wrong direction get off at next stop and follow signs to the correct platform. The Sortie sign refers to the exit for the station. Refer to the many maps located in the stations and inside the metro trains. you will always choose your direction by the ending station of the particular line, a correspondance is indicated by an open circle on the line. Larger stations will have an open oval shape.

There is an interactive metro map at RATP.fr you can route your route and get an idea of how the Metro works.
