Shopping in Nice and Riviera. Any advice?

Hello

I%26#39;ve read lots of useful things regarding what to do and what to see on Cote d%26#39;Azure. There%26#39;s only one bit left for panning the perfect vacation - shopping!

Could someone recommend the good places in Nice? Or is it worth going to Cannes or some other place? (we are renting a car). We%26#39;re interested in perfume (I guess here Grassse is our choice), clothing etc

Thank you in advance!

Can%26#39;t help with perfume, but clothes shopping is my specialist subject...

Designer stuff: Rue Paradis, Avenue de Verdun, Avenue de Suede, plus the roads between Place Massena and Promenade des Anglais.

Jean Medicin: Usual high street shops, good department store, shopping mall (Etoile).

Rue Massena: Pedestrianised shopping area, many small shops, mainly reasonably priced. Comptoir de Cottoniers is a particular favourite.

And, of course, many small shops/boutiques in the Old Town, particularly in Rue du Collet, Rue de la Boucherie, Rue du March, et al - clothes, jewellery, leather, shoes.

And, if the weather is bad, there is an indoor mall (CAP 3000) at St Laurent du Var, just west of the airport. I haven%26#39;t actually been, and it gets mixed reviews.

In the summer, there is also an evening market in Cours Saleya selling jewellery, bags etc.

Grasse offers good perfume-shopping possibilities, as well as other nice little shops (including one for Longchamps handbags--yum!). There are two good small shops that offer fine soaps and a number for Provençal-style linens. The Fragonard perfumery has a good shop in the basement (and note that there are good restrooms on the next level down, near the tour-bus parking lot) as well as one a short block from the undergroubnd parking lot. You can also have perfumes lended specifically for you.

If you have time, pay a visit to the new International Museum of Perfume to explore the history of perfume-making. Beaides the interesting old copper equipment on view there is a large collection of exquisite perfume bottles from the time of ancient Egypt to the present day.

Besides perfume, what will you be shopping for? Nice has any number of good shops.

Thank you so much for such a detailed info! I%26#39;ll have to write it down)

I%26#39;ve been to a Fragonard museum in Paris, but I guess here it will be more exciting! By the way, when you make a special perfume just for yourself, are you supposed to do it yourself or is there a professional to help?

I wouldn%26#39;t say I have plans to focus on anything specific, just a usual shopping including nice clothing (maybe local designers if they exist), maybe accessorizes...stuff like that...

Thanks a lot once again!

For general shopping (including name-brand perfumes), head to the Galeries Lafayette in Nice, right on the Place Masséna.

You get help with blending your own perfume.

Sorry, mcpinder, I don%26#39;t know if the evening market is open every day, nor do I know the date in summer when it starts. What I do know is that many of the normal shops open late in the evening in the summer -Rue Massena is a good evening shopping spot, as it also has many bars and cafes and a real buzz.

Perhaps one of the other amazingly helpful people on here can assist?

So much shopping, so little time...
