hotel darse vs. hotel provencal?

hi, I would love to hear of your thoughts on these 2 hotels. The cost is close enough but we%26#39;d love to know your thoughts on ambiance and location.

Thank you so much,

There is absolutely no comparison between the two. Provencal is a typical old French hotel, shabby and somewhat run down. Perfectly acceptable for the price but not in the same class as the Darse, which looks fairly awful from the outside but has been completely refurbished inside with sea view rooms not much different to those at the much more expensive Welcome. The Provencal is located in a narrow street but some rooms have a beautiful view of the bay. Darse is right beside the marina. Room 31 has one of the best views on the entire Riviera.

The only advantage of the Provencal is that it is close to the main road where buses run to Nice and Monaco while, from the Darse, it is a fairly steep climb of about 400/500 yards up the bus stop or you could run up a flight of several hundred steps close by! Only stay at the Darse if you can get a sea view room, the main point of staying there.

LondonBob has it right. We didn%26#39;t stay at the Darse but its right on the harbour. Step out your front door and it%26#39;s there. How long are you planning on staying in Villefranche, and what activities are you thinking of? For example, if you plan on staying around Villefranche, the Darse is a good location. Its at the far end of Villefranche, but an easy stroll along the waterfront to the restaurants, beaches etc. I would agree that an ocean view room would be a must, otherwise hard to justify being at the end of the port. If you%26#39;re using Villefranche as a base for frequent day trips by Bus or train, then the Darse is perhaps not your best choice. We spent 7 days at Hotel Villa Vauban (it was off season and rates were great). For us it was a great location, more central, half way up the hill so the waterfront and the bus stop were both easy walks. Hotel Provencal didn%26#39;t look like much. Anyway, I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll enjoy Villefranche. We had a great time.

We have just come home after 3 idylic days at villefranche and at the hotel provencal. We paid for the suite which is 98Euros but the view was wonderful and room large and airy, a lovely bath. It is a Logis hotel, it is old, the decor is old but was spotless. It has a nice garden with a couple of loungers and chairs and tables. The staff were very friendly. We were leaving late and we left our bags there and they let us change in a room before we left for the airport without charge. It was 3 mins away from the bus stop and near the spa shop so could buy a bottle and bread..we took a kettle and the view was so lovely it was just great. didnt want to go to sleep just wanted to keep the view in my head..

Stayed at the Provençal last April - the reception is great and friendly (with a lift for luggage)and the breakfasts were fine. It%26#39;s basically in the centre of everything but a bit dated. The rooms overlooking the sea were quite nice. For the price its convenient and acceptable. The Hotel Darce my friend stayed at was better, but the hike up the hill to get anywhere every morning would be a put off for me if I was staying there for any longer than 2 days.
