louvre museum free on first sunday

Hi, i just came to know that visit to louvre museum is free on first sunday and luckily we will be in paris this sunday 7th june which happens to be the first sunday and since we dont have prior reservation thought might use this free admission option, so we just have to go and stand in line at entrance when it opens at 9am? can anyone help to answer how free admission works?

Thank you!

Yep - just get in line. Once the museum opens the line goes pretty quickly since you just have to go through the xray and then you%26#39;re in. And since the Louvre is so large it is never so crowded that you can%26#39;t find space in some exhibit or another. so don%26#39;t let the lines or crowds scare you - go and enjoy!!

Thank you so much for reply, will get there at 9am :)

Use the carousel entrance on rue de rivoli, look for the red awning, will be a shorter line than at the pyramid entrance

hope you like crowds though, I have been on the first sunday of the month...its somewhat chaotic!

thanks for your reply to get through this entrance which metro stop shd i get down at? louvre museum stop or louvre rivoli stop?

Don%26#39;t go at 9, you will just end up standing in line. As a frequent first free Sunday visitor, the best is to arrive about 30 minutes after the museum opens. That way any crowding at the security check is long gone. Carrousel entrance is available off Rivioli, next to the Arc du Carrousel or the Palais Royal-Musee du Louvre stop (1 or 7).

Enjoy!
