getting from Brussels to Caen

We will be in Brussels and my husband would like to see the WWII memorial sites. Other than driving which I guess we can do any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

http://www.thalys.com/fr/en/ for trains from Brussels to Paris

look at reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en…

for trains from Paris to Caen - it%26#39;s easier to use than French sites, and for these trains reservation is not compulsory

I did look at the website which I find very confusing. Is it really a 4 or 5 hour journey with either 2 or 4 connections? It appears that one must change train stations in Paris, correct? Would a eurail pass be helpful? Sorry to be such a dummy thought I have travelled quite a bit. Would it be advisable just to rent a car and drive? We could leave the car in Caen and then fly home from Paris.

Thanks

4-5 hours is optimistic if you have lots of changes to make, Brussels to Caen is miles and Miles and MILES (or perhaps LOTSAKILOMETERS as we are in Europe!)

Yes, to drive from Brussels to Caen will take about 6 hours, so 4-5 by train is optimistic, taking into account crossing Paris and waiting for connections. Personally I%26#39;d drive, the autoroutes are very light on traffic and it%26#39;s pretty straightforward.

I am doing same thing this Saturday, was advice accurate?

A Eurail pass would not be helpful, and would cost more than point-to-point tickets.

For Brussels-Paris, book as early as possible on www.thalys.com

For Paris-Caen, you can get train times in English from the train operator at www.tgv-europe.com

Has you husband researched other WW2 sites apart from the D-day beaches. The Ardennes or Nord-Pas de Calais would be easier than Caen.
