Hi,
I am travelling to paris for a week, and want to plan a day trip from Paris to Etretat. from some of the posts I read, I gather its about 2.5 hour train ride from Paris to Le Havre and one hour by road from le Havre to Etretat. I have some questions if someone who is familiar with the area, can guide me.
1. Do I have the correct information above? Where can I find exact train timings and cost, and do I have to book in advance?
2. Is it practical to do a day return from Paris to Etretat, back to Paris?
3.Is this the only mode of travel, meaning do I have to take a return in the same manner? I read somewhere there is a cruise from Le Havre to Paris. Can you share some details about that.
4. What are the best things to do at Etretat and how long will it take to enjoy the tourist attractions?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Etretat is very pretty and the area where many of Guy de Maupassant%26#39;s stories are set. You can hike along the falaise, great tall white cliffs that go to the water, which I believe is the main attraction. There is a golf course along there that looks quite fun, with dramatic views, if you are a golfer.
The town is not large and you could certainly see it in a day. I think of it as a one night get-away from Paris - arrive around noon, walk, eat lunch, swim if possible (not great swimming beaches but a couple of hotels there have pools), eat dinner, sleep, do the same the next day, and leave after lunch.
The issues you raise about travel are key; I have driven a car each time I have visited, and I have heard that it is quite difficult to reach by train, although there are train tracks going into the town. I hope another poster can provide that information to us. The drive is less than three hours, but a little far for a day trip.

Thank you for your help. I will reconsider a night stay there, I really hope someone can give me some tips because I would be more comfortable travelling by train.
One more thing, what is the best way to move in etretat, locally? Are there taxis available and how is the pricing?

Etretat is not large and you really can walk everywhere; I never took a taxi or drove the car, just walked.

Thank you for this information. I will dig out more. Thanks !

Fecamp may be a better base to stay overnight as it is slightly bigger, though still attractive, still has working railway line and you could get to Etretat from there by bus.
