Last MinuteMSM Decision

Hi. We are planning to see MSM in two weeks. We were planning to stay on the Island. But more and more we are thinking it would make more sense to stay off the island, and just go walk around in the evening and then head away (to Paris) in the morning.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. What time would you recommend arriving at MSM?

What time does the Abbey close?

Where could we stay on the mainland at this late date?

ALWAYS MERCI MERCI

Cannot really help on where to stay off the island but there are several places we saw that looked nice. We did stay inside the Abbey two weeks ago and it was nice. I took photos outside the walls until about 11 p.m. with the Abbey lit up and the doors were still open to the main street. . I guess they stay open all night for those who have rooms inside the walls. Shops probably close around 9 or 10 p.m. but I really did not pay that much attention. The key though is to arrive late and leave early. To say it gets crowded in the narrow streets inside the Abbey starting about mid morning is a gross understatement. If you arrive after 5 p.m. you would still have about 5-6 hours of daylight. It did not get dark until after 10 p.m. and will get dark even later when you are there. We arrived about 7 p.m. and still had time to shop and see things. We left about 11:30 a.m. the next morning and it was elbow to elbow trying to walk the main street. Best to go around the outside of the wall to go up higher during these hours. The causeway was backed up for miles with cars as we left.
