Returning rental car to Bordeaux. Airport vs Train station-a

We are spending a week in the Dordoyne , returning a rental car to Bordeaux and then take the train to Carcassonne. Is it possible to return a Hertz rental car to the train station? I am now scheduled to return the car to the airport and then immediately afterwards catch a train. Are they close? This will be in early July 2009. I have no idea how practical this is.

Thanks.

A quick Google appears to show a Hertz

location at the station but I%26#39;d think you%26#39;ll need to confirm with them about dropping the car at a different place.

Thanks, yes I have since checked the same website. Can anyone tell me if the airport is a long way from the train station or is it close by?

It is 13km by the direct route, but the recommended route on the %26quot;Rocade%26quot; (Ring Road) is 26km. If you didn%26#39;t pick up the car at an airport, it could be cheaper to drop it off at the Gare without a premium location surcharge.

Thank you very much Wigwam3. I will try to change the reservation. You just saved me a lot of time and probably a missed train, let alone a large taxi fare.

As an aside the last time I posted (2-3 weeks ago) I had over 250 map pins, now I have zero. Do they clear the books once a month or something?

why not just drive to Carcassonne and drop off there? Its an easy drive, motorway all the way.

The drop off in Bordeaux is behind the railway station due to current construction (well it was last month)and not easy to find.

One word of caution - you might want to see whether you can determine the state of the construction project that was ongoing around the Bordeaux train station last summer. We had to return a car there, and it was a complete nightmare - many streets closed (and many are one way, so hard to find alternates), plus it was just plain confusing and not well signed for rental car returns.

Another (very good) possibility, if you don%26#39;t already have firm bookings, would be to see whether you can return the car to Libourne and get the train there. Libourne is a main TGV station, one up the line from Bordeaux, and it%26#39;s definitely large enough to have multiple rental agency outlets.

The mess in front of Bordeaux main rail station will last for at least 1 year, may be more, as they are doing major renovation works on the underground parking and drop-in areas etc. Then, when that is finished, they will start in the back of the station where a brand new big station will be built to drastically expand the old one.

Well, I just changed my return from the airport to the train station and made train reservations. Somehow the %26quot;notification%26quot; feature of Trip Advisor did not work and I didn%26#39;t realize I had some replies.

I have to drop off part of the family a few days before at the train station so I am hoping I can %26quot;learn%26quot; the detours.

I would seriously suggest planning to drop them an hour before they are due to leave, so you (and they) aren%26#39;t stressing if you get lost a few times. Good luck with it!

Thank you for the advice. I will do just that. Today I tried to change the Hertz rental car to drop off at Carrcassonne but the drop off fee would go up 500 Euro so I will just have to tough it out. The train folks would have given me a 95% refund.
