Renting a mobile near La Rochelle Airport France

Hi,

Myself, my husband and 4 children would love to find a great mobile/camping holiday park near La Rochelle Airport. If anyone has been to one in sept that is great for kids {pools, slides, playground etc.} We would love to hear from you.

If you are going to a holiday site in France in Sept, and want good facilities, availability could be the big issue.

Some french sites are closing at the end of Aug, many are closed at the end of the 1st week of Sept, and most by the end of the 2nd week.

Also be aware that the last week can be a run down week, when facilities, site shops, and restaurants could be restricted. The holiday companies (which only rent pitches on the independently owned sites) have no control over the facilities.

A few sites will be open, but usually independent of the main holiday companies, and maybe without the facilities you want.

Unlike other operators, Siblu own their own sites and the Charente Maritime ones (south of your airport) are usually open to the end of Sept, and the facilities are also open, though some may be peak season only. But that is at least 40 miles.

If you are going at this time it may be better to find open sites with suitable facilities and look at which are most convenient to get to.

Yeah I agree the holiday camps are winding down by september, but some will still be open. You would do best to head off south to the La palmyre or Royan area (about 1 hour from LR)or equally head north to the Vendee particularly Tranche sur Mer (towards Sable d%26#39;Olonne). These parks have the best pools / slides and facilities.

There is holiday park at Aytre (only 4km south of LR) called Les Sables which looks ok, and a park at Chatellaillon Plage (15km south of LR) but cant think of the name. These parks are not on the same scale as the ones in the Royan area and may be closed in september. There are also holiday parks on the Ile de Re, but if you stay there remember to factor in the toll for the bridge if you are planning to visit the mainland.

Jessica,

Check out www.keycamp.ie We use them each year and are happy to recommend them.

There are a number of sites within 60 minutes drive or so from La Rochelle. Look at Les Sables D%26#39;Olonne, Gard and Longeville sur Mer.

something worth checking out, it may be easier / quicker to fly into Nantes if youre heading for the Sable D%26#39;Olonne area.

The site at Aytre is Camping Les Sables - see www.camping-les-sables.com for details. They have modern three bedroom mobile homes which should accommodate up to six people. The site has probably the best pool/slide facilities in this area - see their site for photos - plus play areas (swings, slides, climbing frames etc.) for children. They should be open to end of October, but as previous responses indicate, there is a tendency to wind down rapidly in September as the season ends, so that not all the advertised services/facilities may be provided. For example, two years ago at Les Sables the onsite bar/restaurant (which also sold take away pizza/roast chickens) suddenly closed down, without any obvious warning. A slight problem if you have no car and there isn%26#39;t much in the fridge! Last year we asked the staff if it was staying open. It still closed (French humour?) but at least we were prepared this time.
