Hi there,
I wondered if anyone wouldn%26#39;t mind sharing some advice on staying in Cannes and taking day trips to St Tropez, Antibes, Monte Carlo/Monaco and Nice? I would really appreciate your help.
I%26#39;m visiting Cannes with 3 friends 10-17th June 09 and I have a few questions about the following:
Public transport (inc fares) from Nice Airport to Cannes (we are staying at Les Genevriers
11 rue Beaulieu Cannes 06400 France)?
Public transport (inc fares) from Cannes for day trips to St.Tropez, Antibes, Monte Carlo/Monaco and Nice on separate days?
What are the key places/sights/beaches to visit in these areas?
How much spending money in euros would you recommend if you%26#39;re visiting Cannes for a week and hoping to visit the places i%26#39;ve listed?
Many thanks

Nice airport to cannes- one euro by TAM 200 bus
boat trip to st tropez is 40 euros from cannes - does not run every day otherwise its a heck of a track with train to st raphael then either long bus journey or boat costing around the same as the boat
trans-cote-azur.co.uk/cannes-saint-tropez.php
to Antibes- one euro single on the bus 200 or train 2.50 single
to Nice 5.80 single train
to monaco 8 euros single train
what do you like to see/do?
how much money do you have to spend ? cannes can be cheap or expensive-it depends what you intend to do.

Hi there,
many thanks for responding to my queries. I am very grateful.
We are staying in Cannes for a week but would also like to take day trips to Antibes, St Tropez, Monte Carlo %26amp; Nice in which we%26#39;d visit the beaches and sample restaurants/night life.
Are there any restaurants and bars for people in their 20s that aren%26#39;t too expensive? We are going to be on a budget of around 300-350 euros each for the week (inc all travel fares).
I know the French Riviera is not cheap so we have to stretch the pennies as far as possible really.
Also how much is it roughly to pay for a deck chair/umbrella at beaches in Cannes, St.Tropez %26amp; Antibes?
Many thanks

Hi there,
From Cannes you can visit the nearby Iles De lerins for another option.
There is a free beach/es in Cannes so you don%26#39;t have to pay. The same at Antibes which is much nicer and there is the small beach at Villefranche just outside Nice.
You can buy a bus pass at Nice Airport for up to 7 days or check out if the Carte Isabelle for the trains is valid I think it is valid from 01 June this year??
For cheap eats there is Bistro Romain in Nice in the Cours Saleya and L%26#39;Hippocambus is good value as well. Many restuarants do dish of the day or set menus and you can order wine by the carafe.
Cheers

A ligne d%26#39;azur 7 day bus pass is no use at all to someone staying in cannes.

Remember you can picnic on the beaches and save some money that way. buy sandwiches or just baguettes and stuff to put in them, spit roasted chickens etc
I was in a place last night in Nice that was pretty reasonable - le Gloss , 16 rue Delille, Nice .
World food - so a bit of everything on the menu but pretty good quality -i was impressed becausde often the sort of trendy looking places are really poor for food.
about 9 euros for fajitas , 11 for steak -they did platters of cheese and charcuterie for about 10 euros etc
5.50 for a 50cl carafe of house wine, only 2 euros for coke etc - they had other stuff but thats what we were drinking.
5 of us had a main course each plus house wine -total was 77 euros

Cheers mate, I really appreciate you taking the time out to help me.
What do reckon the weather will be like in Cannes from June 10th? According to my research around 23 degrees but i%26#39;m hoping for bit warmer than that?
Thanks

23 degrees is the temperature taken in the shade - it will be in the 30s for air temperature.
Its pretty hot at the moment -though not as sweltering as last week

Scotsguy -- I noticed you mentioned %26#39;Hippocampus%26#39; a few times, but if it is the steakhouse on Avenue Félix Faure (Place Masséna) you are referring to, its proper name is %26#39;Hippopotamus%26#39;

Yay! Thanks for replying. That%26#39;s the type of weather I was hoping for.

Think you are staying a little bit out of the centre of Cannes, near the hospital.
There are local buses into town (1 euro fare) which may be useful
If you decide to take the 200 bus from the airport (only 1 euro but slow),keep the ticket you bought at Nice Airport to use for the next leg on the local bus from the bus station in Cannes to your accommodation.
Similarly, when you visit Antibes, tell the driver where you are heading and the 1 euro ticket for the local bus into Cannes will also be valid for onward travel to Antibes.
On the trains, it seems that the Carte Isabelle day pass is valid in June this year,so buy one of these (12 euros) for the Monaco trip. For Nice, it might be worth buying one too especially if you want to see Villefranche the same day.
It is expensive to go to St Tropez, not just the boat fare but also a taxi to get to the famous beaches which are not in town. If you are watching your euros, maybe reconsider going there.
There are lots of good value places to eat and drink in Cannes if you avoid the obviously expensive areas like the Croisette. 3 course evening menus cost anything from 18 euros upwards.
House wine is good value, but if you like imported drinks and cocktails these can be expensive.
Restaurants display their menus and prices outside
If you are going out in the evening, check on bus schedules so you don%26#39;t end up paying for a taxi or having a longish ~ 40 minute walk home
