Hi Folks,
I was hoping someone here might be able to help. I%26#39;m heading over to Europe for two weeks in early July and want to pickup a rental from CDG upon arrival and have it for ~2 weeks. I%26#39;m driving through France and Switzerland and wanted to treat myself to a sports/luxury car (3-Series BMW or C/E Class Benz etc.)
It seems my only %26#39;reasonable%26#39; (I use this word VERY loosely considering the costs) options are Avis or Sixt. Avis seems solid and I%26#39;ve got a Merc booked for ~900 Euro or so. Sixt seems to have a lot more options and is actually a better deal with included Nav etc etc.
My big question is the reviews I%26#39;ve seen about Sixt. They seem to be a little dodgy with lots of reports of %26#39;over%26#39; billing for damage etc AFTER the cars been dropped off and it%26#39;s hard to contest. I%26#39;d prefer not to be lumped with anything like this and i%26#39;m sure this wouldn%26#39;t be the case with Avis.
Does anyone have any experience in this type of thing, specifically with Sixt?
On a side note, r.e their %26#39;GPS included%26#39; does anyone know if they are the Cars own factory GPS or are they little portable units?
Thanks in advance!

Did you check www.rentalcarmomma.com ? They have coupons with ALL of the big car companies. You might save a little more.

Sixt is a car rental firm based in Germany and the largest in that country.
I have used them in the past and found them not remarkably different form other firms.
Both Avis and Hertz charge additionally for one way rentals (the only companies regularly doing so) and have rates which are, in my opinion, not as competitive as other companies such as: Citer, Europcar, ADA, or others. I generally avoid both Avis and Hertz for this reason.
It can take some time to acquaint one%26#39;s self with the particular features of a GPS model. It is for this reason that I recommend buying your own and loading it with the European maps as most models now have this capability. Driving away from CDG is not the time to try to understand the feature of a new GPS unit.

If you intend to drive on Swiss motorways, you must display a %26quot;vignette%26quot; on your windscreen, or if stopped be fined in the spot.
Here%26#39;s a bit of info which may help.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Kebabs, thanks for the tip r.e the Vignette..I had forgotten about that (been to Switz many times.) but I think I%26#39;m going to get that at the border etc since the delivery fee to Australia is more then the Vignette itself!!

I can share my personal experience with SIXT in the same CDG station with two words - no more!
we landed 2 families with kids after a red-eye flight on 5:30AM. Went to the SIXT station but to our surprise (no one bothered to mention) they are only opening at 7AM (a weary guy appeared yawning at us around 7:15AM).
We booked 2 large station wagons. They had only 1 medium sized STW. I picked the medium one and my friend picked an SUV that had very little room for luggage. I had a long corresponance with them ended in them offering me some 25 Euro.
In one word - avoid!

Wow..what a disappointment. I have done a tentative booking with them for a BMW 3-series :( I haven%26#39;t paid any money and there is no commitment and through the other positive reviews I thought I%26#39;d be fine. hmmm...Wonder if I should reconsider?

When we were at the Hertz counter in Stuttgart Germany our teenage boys were drooling over the cars that Sixt had to offer. That being said, we had reserved a Mercedes from Hertz and what do you know.....they gave us something else because the Mercedes were all taken. When we reserved 3 mini vans in Stockholm Avis suddenly didn%26#39;t have any and they gave us two of the largest vans I have ever seen. We felt like school bus drivers and parking was a nightmare.
I don%26#39;t know how they can get away with this, but it seems like all the companies have the same issue. I suppose the small print where it says %26quot;or similar%26quot; keeps them out of trouble. (many times I have been successful in getting car i wanted)
Also, we prefer the Hertz GPS (mercedes was factory loaded) over the Avis one. Just make sure they help you change it to English before you leave the parking lot. I have no experience with Sixt.
(I think if you show up wearing a sporty new driving cap/hat that they will have to give you a sports car!!!!!)
