Driving from Germany -- Help w/ itinerary

Hello,

We are driving from Germany and would like to spend time exploring some areas of Burgundy and then traveling further south perhaps just a bit past Lyon. We will have eight days in total.

I am having trouble deciding where to visit beyond the towns of Dijon and Beaune before we reach Lyon. Any suggestions about other places and how many days needed?

Most of our travels have involved big cities where we pretty much spend most of our time, but since we have a car this time we are hoping to enjoy the countryside. This has made planning more difficult and overwhelming for me (we just got back from six days in Krakow and I guess I am feeling a bit burnt out). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Take a look at the Michelin Green guides. The opening maps have different sites highlighted for many different reasons depending on what you%26#39;re looking for--history, scenery, etc. There are also suggested driving tours for different locations. Of course, these are all tuned-in with Michelin maps.

My fiancee and I have just returned from the glorious countryside...We stayed near Nuits St. Georges, up in the rolling hills, at Domaine De Pellerey. The B%26amp;B has a website and it is terrific. For dinner, you can walk 700km up to the village and have a terrific meal...it was all really magical. You will love the drive....Please consider it and email if you have any questions! The town we spent the night in was called Curtil Vergy, near Segrois and Villars Fountaine...really would be a nice ride through the non touristy parts of Burgundy for you.

Hi Mrboast

That is some boast - walking 700km up to the village.

We spent a great night in Saint-Amour-Bellvue at Auberge du Paradis. It is a really nice little wine village about 20 mins drive SW of Macon.

hahaha 700M I mean!

MrBoast,

Did you make Domaine de Pellerey your base while exploring the area? I was thinking of staying in Beaune so that we could bike/walk to vineyards after we park the car. Would that also be possible from this location?

Wigwam,

Did you try the tasting menu at Auberge du Paradis or the breakfast? From the reviews it looks pretty good! Right now they only have the %26quot;Cumin%26quot; room available and I am bit concerned about noise from the street. Any problems with that?

Thanks for your help. I am much better at planning big cities than the countryside and want to make the trip a relaxing one!

Hi GinGinGirl

We stayed at Auberge du Paradis on a Sunday and the restaurant is open only to guests on this night. Yes, we had the menu du jour and it was a little unusual but very nice. The flavours are a bit of east meets west. We also had breakfast. My recollection is that it was very good French style, but not up to German standard.

We also stayed in the Cumin Room. There was no trafic nor street noise at all. This is a very small village with a couple of wine shops and a bar restaurant 100 metres away opposite. It was open for lunch when we arrived but I don%26#39;t believe it was open on the Sunday night. All in all, a very peaceful stay.

We bought some St Amour wines to take with us. Both red and white are very good.

Why don%26#39;t you try a break far from big cities ?

Your base could be near NITRY (exit n°22 from A6), and you will have plentyof discovers...

Noyers , a medieval village

Chablis, for its wines

Vezelay, a wonderfull site for spiritual training (try also

Arcy sur Cure , and its prehistoric caves

Tanlay or Ancy-le-franc, for their castles

...and so on in a little circle ( %26lt;30km)
