Novotel Hotels in Paris

We are staying in Paris for 4 nights in August. On accorhotels.com there is a %26#39;hot deal%26#39; and all these hotels are $93 per night inc of taxes. We have been to Paris before as we used to live in the UK but now live in USA. This will be the first time for our teen (age 14) and we find the rooms in these hotels offer a pull out couch for her. My question is after reading a lot of reviews which hotel would the experts here recommend. The Gare Montparnasse has the best reviews, but it seems to be Les Halles is the more convenient. We are used to using the metro systems so that is not really a problem for us. So would like some pros and cons for which hotel you think would be the best. We shall be travelling from CDG too. We shall just be running around for 4 days showing our daughter all the touristy sites. Not big into museums but will take her to the Louvre.

All the same price:

Novotels:

Les Halles

Vaugirard Montparnasse

Tour Eiffel

Gare Montparnasse

Comments would be greatly appreciated and this %26#39;sale%26#39; finishes June 1st so need to book quickly (its prepaid at this ptice).....

Many thanks......

Since no one else has responded, I%26#39;ll give this a try...

I am not familiar with the properties, so will comment only with regard to location.

Les Halles - the most (and only) centrally located, and with the best, though not excellent, public transit nearby.

Vaugirard Montparnasse, Gare Montparnasse - inconveniently located.

Tour Eiffel - not at inconvenient at the two above, but still inconvenient. And, it%26#39;s not really that convenient to the Tour Eiffel...

Though not in the most charming of areas/neighborhoods (though not bad either), for it%26#39;s location, I%26#39;d go with Les Halles.

Thanks for your response. We have to make a decision today!!

I think a lot of people would not prefer Les Halles, and instead opt for the Gare Montparnasse - the Montparnasse-Bienvenüe metro stop is a public transport hub with 4 metro lines, and it%26#39;s less seedy and touristy than Les Halles.

Of course, Les Halles is also very central for public transport, but the Chatelet-Les Halles station is enormous, and I try to avoid it.

Vaugirard-Montparnasse might also be worth a look, but I%26#39;m not sure if this is very close to a metro stop (preferably with several lines).

I think it%26#39;s important not to make assumptions. Novotel Les Halles is actually a few blocks south of Les Halles and not in a seedy area - the area to the east used to be considered seedy, but has improved so much in the last ten years you%26#39;d never know walking through there. The nearest metro station is Les Halles, but Louvre-Rivoli, Pont Neuf, and Etienne Marcel, all on different metro lines, are each within a five minute walk.

The Montparnasse-Bienvenue metro station is nearly as enormous as Chatelet/Les Halles, and the Novotel is nearly 1 km away. The closest metro stop is actually Pasteur (with two metro lines). That hotel is %26quot;out there%26quot;.

Novotel Vaugirard describes itself on the website as being %26quot;located in the heart of Paris%26quot;. If believe that, you%26#39;d be disappointed with that location.

For a tourist, a hotel in a %26quot;touristy%26quot; area is probably preferable to one that%26#39;s another 15-20 minutes going and coming every day and is more likely to be surrounded by lots of cafes, restaurants, patisseries, shops, etc.

If it were me, I%26#39;d pass on this %26quot;hot deal%26quot;. For one thing, for August, you%26#39;re likely to see another - maybe better...

Nothing would be more discouraging than to prepay a reservation only to learn you could have done better.

Or, you may decide you%26#39;d rather pay a bit more for a nicer hotel in a better location.

Hi fsh,

Saw that sale yesterday and have had exactly same thoughts.

Couple of points...

Gare Montparnasse seems the better in reviews and is well served by metro and bus.

Personally I cannot see this property being 69 euro (125 $A) again before August but of course may be wrong.

Daughter is staying 6 nights which is a very large saving( around 550 $A).

Slightly preferred the Concorde Montparnasse but the saving is too hard to resist.

Jumped in and booked this afternoon.

They were very obliging allowing early check in and guaranteed non smoking room.

Also if exec rooms are available on day of check- in you can upgrade for 25 euro.

On balance I figure it is a good deal..

Have fun..

tHANKS EVERYONE......well we jumped in and then went to book and of course some of the hotels were not available at this rate!! So, keeping fingers crossed here, the only one we cold get in, as we needed 2 rooms with triple occupancy was the Novotel Vaugirard Montparnasse......at $93 inc taxes we thought it was a steal....! Too late to change now!! Lets hope its an OK hotel!!!
