Eze or St. Paul de Vence?

Trying to decide whether to visit Eze or St. Paul de Vence on a 1/2 day trip from Monaco. Both are medieval walled walled fortresses, Eze is closer to Monaco. But which is the best?

I thought we would take the train to Cannes, then the train to Cagnes sur Mer and take the 400 bus to St. Paul de Vence, otherwise we%26#39;ll take the train to Nice and take the 112 bus to Eze.

What do you recommend?

In terms of my timeline, I have from 8 am to 16:00 (4 pm) to get back to Monaco.

All recommendations are most appreciated.

Thanks / Merci Beaucoups!

My choice would be Eze. I%26#39;ve seen both, and they are both very nice. St. Paul might be more appealing to those who are into the arts. Eze provides a view that I%26#39;ll remember forever.

I too prefer Eze, especially in view of the much easier travel from Monaco.

We find St-Paul-de-Vence much more interesting than Eze, as it%26#39;s a complete medieval perched village to explore. Eze has a beautiful view, but there%26#39;s really not much more to see.

In addition, very close to St-Paul is the Fondation Maeght, an excellent, mostly open-air modern art museum.

Cannes is actually beyond Cagnes sur Mer. You can reach Cagnes directly from Nice.

You don%26#39;t need to go all the way to Nice if you%26#39;re going to Eze from Monaco. You can catch the bus to Eze from Monaco. Just get up to the main entrance to the railway station and the bus stop is directly in front. Buses leave from further down the road at 08.00 and 09.45, so should be up at the railway station about 5 minutes later. Buses back from Eze are 14.15 (arr. Monaco 15.10) or 16.10 (arr. Monaco 17.00).

Whoops - just realised the times back from Eze are 14.35 and 16.30 - in my previous posting I posted the times the bus leaves Nice.

You should find the time to do both. They are both sensational. Eze isn%26#39;t very big, just breath taking views with nice shopping and a Fragonard shop. St. Paul de Venze is larger and feels so French and the museum is a must do.

Eze is a better bet than St.Paul from Monaco. Eze has fantastic views, great little shops (have a look at the Crystal jewelry) and great cafes and restaurants. Its also easier to see in your time scale. The best way there is by bus that drops you right outside the entrance to the old part of the village. There is a walk down that takes you to Eze-sur-Mer where you can catch a bus or train to Nice or Monaco, but beware the walk down is very steep in parts, and is on rough paths. It takes 45 minutes. If you go to Eze, and find you have time to spare, get the bus to Beaulieu-sur-Mer, and take the coastal path towards St Jean Cap Ferrat, again you can get back to monaco on the Bus or by train.

Though this question is a bit past its answer-by date, in the last week as it happens by chance, I revisited both Eze and St Paul.So I reflected on it.

St Paul went up in my previous estimation - its clear real people live there and its utterly cute. The village has lots of interesting nooks and crannys, especially when you get away from the tourist-art shops. Not without reason it%26#39;s the second most visited site in France.

For me, Eze failed a second look. There is little there but tourist junk (sorry, %26quot;Art%26quot;), and outward views are mostly monopolised by the Jardin Exotique like a tax on the view. The Chateau Eza and Chevre d%26#39;Or are hugely expensive luxury joints - Not where to get a reasonably priced drink AND a view. Eze put me in mind of how cows feel probably feel about being milked. Though the view is unquestionably pretty, its even prettier up on the Grande Corniche above, or the heights of Villefranche%26#39;s Corne d%26#39;Or.

I concluded Eze get%26#39;s the %26quot;most visited by people on cruiseboats with very little time%26quot; award. Time aside, I go with St Paul, or the man who said %26quot;see them both%26quot; if you can.

I%26#39;m on a cruise and will be in Villefranche from 10 am to 8 pm. I%26#39;d like to go to Monaco (car museum, see casino, see exotic cars) and St. Paul De Vence (lunch). Can I easily do both by bus without hiring a driver?
