Champs Elysees - best area to stay?

Hi,

We are visiting Paris at end July for 4 days, and am looking for the most central/best area to get a hotel.

My youngest daughter does not like the Metro, so has to be somewhere central where tourist places are either within walking, bus or cab distance and thought Champs Elysees would be ideal.

I am looking for a really good hotel in that area so if anyone has suggestions on that as well that would be great.

All comments welcome.

The sights of Paris are spread out, and you will have to take the metro to see some of them, no matter where you stay. Or take some expensive cab rides. How does your daughter cope with the clockwork orange?

Champs Elysees is ideal if you want to be in an area that is heaving with tourists all day.

I am afraid I do not understand your comment about Clockword Orange, perhaps you would elaborate?

Madeleine area is more central than Champs Elysees and there are many buses to take. No need for metro.

Plus you can walk to Champes Elysees from there, Tuileries, Louvre etc.

Study the bus routes and get near a major route that suits your visiting needs.. Somewhere along Rivoli near the Louvre seems right

For walking to sights it isn%26#39;t the best area. I would try to stay close to Notre Dame and the Seine, that would be close to many attractions.

Here is an interactive map with bus routes indicated, give it a moment to download www.ratp.info/orienter/f_plan.php…

It%26#39;ll be easier to make suggestions if you tell us your budget for the hotel and room size required (dbl/triple...).

It%26#39;s best to stay most central to the places you plan to visit. So, get yourself a one-page map of Paris and highlight those places, so you can determing the most central neighborhood for your visit.

You%26#39;ll probably want to go all over, though, and you can easily do that on the city buses.

I prefer the buses versus the metro for a number of good reasons, primarily for the scenery along the way and that the stops are more conveniently located.

Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to print the Paris bus map with streets. But, a good alternative is the map of buses that also run evenings - after 8:30 and until about 12:30 AM.

When printing this map, make sure %26quot;fit to printable area%26quot; is selected.

And, the map of buses that run Sundays and holidays (mostly the same route as %26quot;soirees%26quot;).

Then, select an area with one or more of those bus lines.

In the alternative, l%26#39;Opentour is a terrific (though more costly) way to get around to all the major sights and attractions, so you may want to consider staying near a stop on the Paris Grand Tour.

If you study the routes map, you%26#39;ll see that the Madeleine or Opera area is on two l%26#39;Opentour routes.

In the nice weather, views from seats on the open air upper deck of l%26#39;Opentour are magnificent. It%26#39;s not the most efficient way to get around, as routes are circular and one-way, so you%26#39;d probably want to hop off destinations in order of their stops along the route.

Hi,

My budget is around £600 - £750 for the 3 nights and we would need a triple room.

Thanks

Even though I enjoyed staying on the Champs on a trip to Paris, I found it was not the most central of locations. I agree that a more central spot would be around Notre Dame area. You can walk to a lot of places in Paris, but you will be doing alot of walking. YOu will definitely need a but or cab if you want to go up to the Montmartre area.

The Clockwork orange is the subway (metro/underground) system that we have here in Glasgow. It%26#39;s run by SPT and has several routes. Lots of info on Google about it.
