trip report day 3-anniversary

DAY 3: 20th may 2009,our 20th wedding anniversary.

we woke up to a beautiful sunny morning and got ready to head to versaille.Caught RER from pont de l%26#39;alma to versailles with no problems. Was about a 30 min trip.Short walk from staton to the chateux and what a magnificant sight it was.Had never seen any thing like this in my life!

With our museum passes we were inside within about 10 mins and kids just followed behind being U18.We got audio guides to tour the palace which was very informative and easy to use. The beauty of the palace was amazing and i loved seeing where royalty of long ago lived.

The day was getting quite warm by the time we finished the palace, maybe 30c or so we caught the mini train to look around the gardens. We hopped off at the canal and had lunch at La Flottile which was very good( total 49.60 euro) and then walked around some of the gardens before heading back to the chateux and onwards for paris.Got back to paris about 3.30.

Relaxed for a few hours before heading to the eiffel tower for dinner.Had dinner booked at 58 tour eiffel for 8.30pm. Easily found restaurant reservation kiosk and in no time we were on 1st floor for dinner. Now despite what you may have read about this restaurant we had a wonderful evening.Had a window seat and a very friendly waiter, service was excellent. Menu- champagne and aperitif, foie gras(our first taste, and we are not fans of this one!),John dory and vegetables followed by veal and macaroni, chocolate tart and mini pastries ,tea and coffee.soft drinks also included.125 euro each, but worth every penny for a once in a life time trip and special occasion as well.Possibly the best veal we have ever had.

Once finished at dinner we walked acros to trocadero and watched eiffel tower sparkle at midnight. Lots of people around, real party atmosphere.Kids were amused by street vendors taking off every time the police showed up.Walked back to apartment, had cup of tea and watched tower sparkle again at 1am without the main lights on- this was really pretty- and then darkness.

This was an amazing day.An anniversary which will live with us in memory forever.I felt so blessed to share this day with the love of my life and our two wonderful children.

Also if you go to versailles be sure to stop at the souvenir shop on the corner as you turn onto the street that heads up to the chateaux.Great collection of items here and mostly cheaper than places in paris we found.

What an amazing way to celebrate an accomplishment of 20 years together...congratulations! And I hope your two children realize (someday, anyway!!) how lucky they are to have parents who take them along on such a wonderful trip!

Congrats on 20 years! And a great story too. My wife and I are about to spend our FIRST anniversary at Versailles next weekend and can%26#39;t wait for it!
