I have a whistle stop day in Caen on Saturday and would like to know as a sole traveller using public transport/taxis/tour bus what would be best in order to get to one of the beaches. Is it possible to book a half day tour on the day and could anyone advise where `i can locate these tours. Any other suggestions for sightseeing/a memorable day would be appreciated as I have little time to waste in trying to find my way about and risk getting lost and missing out. I am staying at Hotel D%26#39;Arcantis, needing to be back in town and at the Abbaye aux Dames for 6pm...and I cannot be late!! :-)

ps. i have checked out the tourist office and they do not seem to have a half day tour on Saturday so would need to get to Omaha or other beach independently but would prefer a guided tour...

You do realise that this Saturday is 6th June (D-Day) and that Presidents Sarkozy and Obama will be at Omaha? This means the whole area has been sealed off to all but those with passes, so no chance of getting near that area.
Any tours that ARE running will certainly be fully booked by now and public transport will be very limited. There will be plenty going on at all of the beaches but I don%26#39;t know how you will get there without a car.
