Best station for train spotting?

Hi

Off to Paris on the Eurostar at the end of the month with my train obsessed 8 year old! Although we won%26#39;t have time to take a TGV journey whilst we are there, it would be nice to see some close up! Any ideas as to the best station to view the TGVs from - we are in and out of Gare du Nord.

Many Thanks

Gare du Nord itself will have lots of trains in and out - if he would enjoy just watching them pull in and out, there are plenty of vantage points down along the platforms where you can do this.

Thank you for your advice - much appreciated. I will have one happy chappy!

Admin girl,

You made me smile. I had a child who was obsessed by trains and to this day I still get excited when I see a train go by.

Good luck with your adventure!

Thanks Kajon,

Not sure who says %26quot;ooh look%26quot; more now - me or him! The things you do for your kids! We are going to have a fantastic time.

Cheers

At Gare du Nord he will be able to see TGVs, going to Lille, Thalys traind, going to Belgium, and also a variety of local trains including some double decker ones. In fact you will probably see some parked TGVs at Lille. Close to Gare du Nord, rhe road passes over the tracks coing to and from Gare d%26#39;Est which may be of interest.

At Gare du Nord go up the escalator for the Eurostar departures. There is a cafe at the top and a balcony from where there is a good view of all the platforms. As a previous poster said, he will see Eurostar, Thalys and TGV, as well as the local French trains. Some of these are double deckers.

Thank you very much for the info - it%26#39;s been a great help.

Take hi on the line 14 metro and make sure that you are in the front car. Its an automated metro and there is nothing but window separating you from the tracks and the tunnel. Very cool.

At the east end of the Métro line-7 Chatelet platform, there%26#39;s an ornate foot bridge over the tracks where you can see deep into the tunnel and the trains pass just a couple of feet below your feet. Very exhilarating.
