Fete de la Musique - June 21

We will be in Paris on the 21st of June and have heard about the Fete de la Musique held on the day of the Summer Solstice, but not sure of exactly what to expect. Are there concerts that we would need tickets for or is it more of musicians on the streets or in certain areas? We will be staying near Les Invalides. Is it something that goes on all day or mostly in the evening? Any information would be appreciated.

It is a street festival all over the city and goes on all night. It is a wonderful event.

I%26#39;m envious.

Its free as far as I know. Hubby and son attended year before last,, and really enjoyed it.. They just wandered from place to place, tickets, may be needed for some places .. I would google it and see if you can find the site that list some of the performers and places, I believe there is such a listing somewhere.

La Fête de la Musique takes place all over France on June 21st, and has even gone international. This will be the 28th year, and since the Minister of Culture and Communication celebrates its 50th year this year, the theme of the event will be %26quot;50 ans de chanson française%26quot;. http://fetedelamusique.culture.fr/

You don%26#39;t have to buy tickets, just wander the streets and enjoy the music. We think that the music seems appropriate to the neighborhoods, for example, one year we enjoyed a sax sextet on the île Saint-Louis, a Jazz quartet at Place des Vosges and a rock band at the Bastille. By midnight the party at the Bastille is just beginning.

Last year we wandered farther away from our neighborhood, the Bastille, to see what was happening in other areas and were a bit disappointed as there wasn%26#39;t much happening as we walked down the Champs-Elysées, through the Tuileries, past the Louvre, and it wasn%26#39;t until we entered the Marais that we found the real spirit of Fête de la Musique. So, I think that you will have more fun if you stick to the neighborhoods like the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th.

This will be our 9th year of living in France, and we have had the pleasure of being in tiny villages, small towns and big cities on the 21st of June and it has been a real pleasure to see how each region celebrates La Fête de la Musique. So wherever you are in France, be sure to go out on evening of the Summer Solstice to enjoy the music.
