I think you will need to take a taxi from the Bayeux train station to the Hertz location. At the time of our travel, last October, the station in town was under renovation and had been relocated outside of town. It looks as if this relocation may be permanent, or at least, long term.

Perhaps, someone else can give you more up to date information about Bayeux car rental, but you may also want to consider renting a car in Caen. There are more rental car companies located there, and their offices are a brief walk from the train station. Caen is on the train route from Paris, if this is your plan.

Yes the Hertz rental place is on the way out of town towards Cherbourg. It%26#39;s a long way to walk.

If you want a rental place nearer the station there%26#39;s a Renault Rent place 200yds away.

It is about a 35 minute or so walk from there. Go straight into town from the station and turn left at the intersection by the Halle Aux Grains. Then just keep going: It is at a gas station, and the Hertz name is the lowest one on the sign. My cousins and I were staying at a gite adjacent to the Hall aux Grains and it took us about 30 minutes to get there from that spot. There is a small port town Port de Bessin about a 15 min drive from Bayeux that is well worth a visit. It is a working fishing port, we saw men mending their nets beside the harbor and had a lovely lunch at one of the restaurants. Sorry this is so short on detail - I was not the driver and was crammed into the back seat so could not see very well.
