Paris to Caen by train

Hello,

Need help!

Would like to purchase first class round trip from Paris to Caen August 6. Leaving the earliest and coming back to Paris as late as possible. The SNCF is so difficult to navigate and Rail Europe is so expensive.

Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions. Thanks

Have you looked at the hints on how to use the SNCF site at seat61.com/…20voyages-sncf.com

In my view, first class is a waste of money on a French train. Second class is fine: nothing like economy on a plane.

We%26#39;ve just returned from France and took the train from Caen to Paris after returning our rental car at the Caen train station. To be able to print off your tickets on your home computer, first print off the form in English on the rail europe site. Do not buy tickets there. Then go back and state that France is your country of origin on the SNCF site and the form will be in French. Not to worry--the questions are the same as the English version. You will be asked if you wish to print off your tickets (imprimater, is the term I think). Select that choice and Voila! You will have your tickets in hand in Maryland. We did just that and those tickets are the ones you will show the conductor once on board. No need to stand in any lines at the train station.

We did not get reserved seats, let alone first class, because there are plenty of empty seats IF you get there early enough. Reserved seats are marked with ticket stubs above the seats. Unmarked seats are first come first served. Even if you don%26#39;t get a seat, the ride is under two hours and you can always go to the car with a snack bar and sit. As another note, no one ever came through the car we were in to examine our tickets.

Thank you for advice and postings on this very useful topic. Using the links advised I had no probs booking a ticket and I am the biggest technophobe and do not speak French! I was a little nervouse because although part of the enquiry you can indicate English text when booking and making a payment I did not have the facility so hoped - hope - I got the correct ticket...we will find out on Friday!!
