Layover in Amsterdam- customs at AMS or CDG

We have found great priced tickets for our trip to Paris in the fall. The outbound flight is non-stop from the US, but on the return we would have a layover at AMS. Would we go through customs at AMS (as in collect our luggage and recheck) or would it be sent straight through to US?

Thanks for any insight on this situation. The tickets seem too good to pass up!

You really should check with your airline. Almost always, the bags are checked through. You may have to go through security at AMS.

If it is all one e-ticket with just a change of planes in Amsterdam (rather than an overnight) it would be unusual to have to collect your bags and go through customs, though consulting the airline would give you the best answer.

I changed planes at Amsterdam during a 2 hour layover in March. First we had to go clear across the airport and go through the Dutch security/immigration check. They even stamped our passports - something the Italians didn%26#39;t do even though we were arriving for 10 days.

Be sure to use the restroom before you get to your gate, because once you are at your gate you go through US immigration and this involves everyone on the plane standing in a long line for a personal interview. You also go through a US style security check - shoes off, no liquids, etc.

It%26#39;s a very efficient, modern airport, just secure!
