brittany recommendations

Hi, my husband and I would like to explore this coastal region but since I will be 6 months pregnant when we go I would really appreciate any advice on where to stay. We are hoping to find a nice harbour town/village with beaches nearby and some nightlife. We will hire a car to explore the surrounding areas of interest and coastal attractions. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hiya,

We stayed near Paimpol last summer and that was a lovely base to see the coast in the area. It is a nice, busy harbour with a massive fish market weekly.

A few minutes drive away is the gorgeous harbour across from the Île-de-Bréhat. You can go for day trips over to the island and there are a couple of the famous Bretange lighthouses and a pretty chapel.

Not too far away is the huge Plage Bonapart, miles of golden sand and cliffs above. In the other direction you can drive all along the %26#39;Emerald coast%26#39;, which is beautiful and has gems like the Chapelle Saint-Gonery at Plougrescant.

Alternately you might want a slightly larger town as your base, in which case St-Malo might be more up your street. Again it is a lively harbour town, with a %26#39;walled%26#39; old town and lots of places to eat/drink. The area is lovely, with Dinan 30 minutes away by car, Dinard just 8km away and the Cote d%26#39;Amour and the Cap Frehat not far away.

Pont Aven is absolutely beautiful and a big favourite of artists. There are lots of galleries and boutique tourist shops, and it%26#39;s just a few minutes of the main road (sorry, can%26#39;t remember name) that runs through much of Brittany.

Concarenau is also very lovely. Rospico and Port Manech are pretty towns with gorgeous beaches and beautiful countryside.

Brittany is so scenic you can%26#39;t really go wrong. There are some more ideas in my regional guide here: http://tinyurl.com/q6gu8q

Good luck
