Beaches for non-drivers.

Having lived down in Avignon a few years back, I never made it to the beaches anywhere along the south coast due to a hectic work schedule. I%26#39;m returning there with a friend later this month, and we%26#39;re keen on making it a proper relaxing holiday, rather than just a trip to see all the same old haunts. Sunbathing on a sandy beach is high on the agenda.

The problem is, neither of us drive, which seems to rule out the Carmargue- the distance from Arles (which appears to be the nearest train station) is just too far. This seems to leave Marseille as the main option, although I don%26#39;t know the city itself well.

Any suggestions either in Marseille or elsewhere that%26#39;s reasonably accessible to a non-driver?

There are trains to Arles and buses to Sts. Maries de la Mer which is probably the closest beach area.

Many who live in Avignon go to Le Grau du Roi, also reachable without a car but you need to take the train through Nîmes.
